Upon the recommendation of the lovely lady tending the Ruddy's Museum in Palm Springs, we decided to give this place a try on our way back to Palm Springs from Joshua Tree Visitor Center. The shop is located right across the Joshua Tree Farmer's Market which we also visited.

I read reviews of such a long wait here but I guess, we arrived in the right time when it wasn't busy. We were promptly greeted by the friendly guy in the counter. We browsed through the glass shelves to check what flavors they have for the day. Saw about 4 kinds but the guy showed us more pizzas that were underneath the counter.

We decided on pepperoni pizza and strawberry mousse for dessert. What I liked about this place is that they only add cheese on top after it's been ordered. Then they put it to the oven to fully cook. This method prevents the pizza from being soggy and greasy while sitting in the counter.

The mouse was perfect as dessert. It's smooth and not overly sweet which I hate in most desserts. Cold water available in the counter. Lots of inside and backyard seating. Free street parking.

The pizza was very good, but our experience was pretty bad. We ordered a pizza and at 20 mins I went to check what happened. They said they skipped over the order and never even started making it. They asked if I wanted a refund, but we were starving, so I said, "Well, I guess we just have to wait." The worker was apologetic and offered a free salad. But that took another eternity. It felt like they forgot about us again. I almost had to get up again and ask what happened with the salad, but it finally came. I think in total we waited a good 45-50 mins for just one pizza. My husband was so upset as we were on vacation.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a reasonable person and I understand simple mistakes can happen. But this was just bad. They should have given us a free pizza and remedied the bad experience immediately. I don't think we could go back because we just didn't feel well treated.

They would get 5 stars but I have a laundry list of complaints...

First, and most importantly, they have had multiple low ratings from the SB County Dept of Public Health... gross.

Second most important (to me at least), is inconsistent customer service. Sometimes their staff are absolutely amazing, wonderful, and friendly (even when they're slammed and barely have any slices left).
...but, other times staff are rude, make up policies that contradict most of my experiences... getting an entire pizza, military/locals/1st responder discounts.

Lastly, Lunch... they got rid of their lunch special. No warning, no other offers. Lunch starts and sometimes they're not ready with slices. Sometimes they only have one person working the cash register and ovens... *during lunch*!!!! It's just a hot mess.

They remodeled but it's still an epic cluster during tourist season. They can't cook enough pizza during the busiest part of the year.  It's just too bad, because their pizza really can be amazing.

After a long and treacherous journey to Joshua Tree, we were starving and a slice of New York style pizza sounded like it would hit the spot. A friend recommended this little spot to me, but with the average yelp ratings I honestly didn't know what to expect. The girl who helped us was so friendly and it really felt like a ma and pa owned restaurant, which I love to support.

We ordered a medium pizza (8 slices) with half life by garlic (vegetarian) and half the chip (w/ bacon but we substituted chicken). It was more than enough to satisfy two very hungry people and we waited about 30 minutes for our food. It was well worth the wait because it tasted so fresh out of the oven and all of the toppings and flavors really impressed me! Love the New York style thin crust as well. If I ever to return to JT, I would come back to Pie for the People for some delicious pizza!
